Backyard Birds of Hawaii Mug — Labeled Zebra Dove, Common Myna, Red-crested Cardinal & Warbling White-eye (11oz)

Four birds you actually see from a lanai in Hawaii — each one labeled by name.

Every bird on this mug is on the list Hawaii volunteers in Project FeederWatch (Cornell Lab of Ornithology) report at their feeders. Hawaii's native honeycreepers rarely come to feeders, so the birds in a Hawaii yard are mostly ones that were brought to the islands — and these four are the ones you see.

On this mug: Zebra Dove · Common Myna · Red-crested Cardinal · Warbling White-eye

The Zebra Dove is the small, finely barred dove that walks around lanais, parks and outdoor tables, with a soft, trilling coo.

The Common Myna is brown with a black head and a patch of yellow skin around the eye. It walks rather than hops, and is rarely far from people.

The Red-crested Cardinal has a bright red head and crest over white underparts and a grey back. It comes from South America and was brought to Hawaii, where it is now a familiar yard bird.

The Warbling White-eye (until recently called the Japanese White-eye) is a small green bird with a bright white eye-ring. It was introduced to Hawaii and is now one of the most widespread birds in the islands.

How common are they, really? We went through the Cornell Lab's FeederWatch counts for Hawaii and wrote up what Hawaii feeders report.
