"Tiny but Mighty" Chickadee Crewneck Sweatshirt
Half an ounce of bird that outlasts the winter.
The Black-capped Chickadee is the smallest thing at most feeders and comfortably the toughest. It gets through nights well below freezing by dropping its own body temperature overnight to save fuel, then spends the next day caching seed in hundreds of separate hiding places it remembers for weeks.
It is also the yard's alarm system. The chick-a-dee-dee-dee call carries more dee notes the more dangerous the thing it has spotted, and every other bird in the garden listens.
About the bird. Black cap and bib, clean white cheeks, buff sides, and a round-headed shape that makes it look friendlier than any bird has a right to look. In the southeastern states you have the near-identical Carolina Chickadee instead.
The sweatshirt. Crewneck, original illustration, printed to order in the USA, ships in 2–5 business days. See the size chart before ordering.
There is a matching Chickadee print in the Field Notes series.
