The Carolina Wren is a year-round Georgia fixture and will nest in a boot, a mailbox, or a hanging basket you were still using. Rusty brown, bold white eyebrow, tail cocked straight up, and far louder than a bird that size has any right to be.

The Eastern Bluebird does well in Georgia with a box facing open ground, away from the house. Deep blue above, rusty throat and breast, white belly; it drops straight down from a low perch into the grass.

The Mourning Dove works the ground under the feeder on cracked corn and millet, and whistles on takeoff.

The Northern Cardinal is red all over with a crest and a black face; the female is warm tan with the same red bill. Sunflower seed keeps a pair around all year.
