Every bird on this mug is on the list of species that Oregon volunteers in Project FeederWatch (Cornell Lab of Ornithology) report at their feeders most often. So it works as a small field guide you hold every morning, not a generic set of songbirds from somewhere else.

On this mug: Black-capped Chickadee · House Finch · American Robin

The chickadee here is the Black-capped Chickadee. It takes one seed at a time and flies off with it, so it makes a lot of trips — and it is usually among the first birds to find a new feeder.

The House Finch is the streaky brown finch whose males wear a red head and breast. It usually arrives in small groups and settles in on a tube feeder of sunflower seed.

The American Robin is mostly a worm-and-berry bird rather than a seed eater, so a birdbath or a fruiting shrub brings it closer than a feeder will.

Why only three? Oregon's common hummingbird is Anna's, and its common goldfinch is often the Lesser Goldfinch — neither matches our current drawings, so we left them off rather than print the wrong bird.
